Show only the bin marker on X-axis but all values within the bin to be plotted on the line

Hello Experts,

I have a requirement where some numeric data is captured every 15 minutes. I want to display this in a line chart with X-axis showing the markers for every 4 hour. The data points to be plotted should be for every 15 minutes but the X-axis should not contain a marker for every 15 min.

Is there an option readily available or a custom control to accomplish such a task. Please suggest.

Thanks.

Kind Regards,

Chetan

Hi Chetan,

I would suggest you create some bins of time. Please refer to the demo in the attachment. If you have different data, please share a sample and the expected results.

Hi @v-jiascu-msft,

I managed to get to the point you have mentioned below. Although binning gives me the X-axis markers, it actually does not plot each point between the markers i.e. plotting every 15 min in the 4 min bin.

Anyways i tried making the X-axis Continuos. This gave a somewhat modified version of the original requirement. Now i am able to get only few markers on the X-axis and all the data points are also plotted,  but it's just that the duration of those markers is automatically decided by Power BI.

The image given below is what i was able to achieve:

There is a 6 hour timespan within the chart with each 15 min plot as well.

Hi Chetan,

The Axis should be bins. Please refer to the snapshot below. Can you share a sample that can show us the issue?

Hi @v-jiascu-msft,

If i use the bin with 4 hours as the axis, i would get the markers for every 4 hours. But the problem would be about the 15 minutes interval data points/tooltips. In the above image that i had attached, i have shown a tooltip between the markers. It is shown for every 15 mins. As per my understanding, your solution will show data point/tooltips only for the binned intervals and not for the intervals within the bins.

So lets say my data points are as below:

Time           Value

01:00            5

01:15            10

01:30            20

01:45            30

02:00            40

I have a bin of 1 hour. So the markers on X-axis would be 01:00 and 02:00 considering that i have included Bins on the axis.

If i hover over any data point between the markers of 01:00 and 02:00, i will only be able to see only 2 points i.e. one at 01:00 and the other at 02:00. But i will never get to see tooltip for 15 mins intervals.

Chetan

Hi Chetan,

Can you share the expected result? You can draw it by hand or any means. What should the "every 4" hours look like?

There you go. Hope you get the same. 🙂

Hi Chetan,

I'm afraid this feature isn't available for now. I would suggest you vote up these ideas.
