Shared semantic model is not able to edit relationships or columns

I have a master data semantic model published in the fabric environment through the Power BI desktop. I want to connect to only selected entities, edit relations, and select columns between the selected entities based on the need of the report and I need to create five different reports in this way. Please suggest the best way to approach this scenario.

I tried to select only particular entities by directly connecting with the shared semantic model but was not able to select the columns or edit relationships of the source data set. Please suggest me a better way to have one semantic model to maintain in the workspace instead of creating five different data models for each report.

@anusha_2023 ,

if the model as it is built can't fit all reports in its relationship, then there should be different semantic models for each.

Hello @anusha_2023 ,

you need to prepare everything in the main semantic model with the relnship and creating the measures and tables and then you connect to it with every report you want. it will allow you to pick the tables you want to need from it.

but every change or measure or column creation would be with the main semantic model.

Hi, Thank you very much for your reply. I tried to implement the models according to your suggestion. In this way I am facing few challlenges. Please suggest me further to implement in the right direction.

Below are four models first three are models needed to deduce from the fourth masterdatashared model.

  1. When selecting only four dimentions for the first model Costcenter, Person, Customer, and CustomerContact from the Master dataShared model, the model do not the relation between Person and CustomerContact because the need is to filter Peson through Customer and CustomerContact for the first model. How to avoid this unnecessary relation for the first model.
  2. For the second model I do not need relations which are in orange in the masterdatashared model.
  3. For the third model Costcenter, Person, CustomeContact, Customer, need to filter with opprotunity as per the diagram.

Please let me know how to make these changes according to the specific model from the shared model.

Hello @anusha_2023 ,

it's can stay like this and work for all reports or make one per each report, but to select a specific relation for each report it won't work with one semantic model, the you need to have one for each as separate.

but in your case here, you can keep it all in one and  connect all reports to it.

thanks for the reply. Could you please elaborate further by taking the third model Sales Report and if I need to select from MasterDatashareddataset which is fourth model how could I able manage the relationships for example model do not need the relationship between Person and Opportunity and, Person and Customer. Can I skip two active relationships in the model and traversse using inactive relationship. Is this scenario possible?
