When I connect to a SharePoint list and pull in the data all the fields do not come in with the column headers we create or see in Sharepoint. They all come in generic like field_1. How do I pull in the actual column names?
I want to add that this was a list created by uploading an excel file. After the upload when we now add new columns those come over with the column headers. I tested this and found this happens with any of our lists we create using an uploaded excel file.
Import
1) Import data.... Get Data/Online Services/Sharepoint List
2) When prompted, Enter site URL
3) Select implementation 2.0
4) Select Advanced Options, View Mode, Select "Default - Retrieve the columns set in the default view of Sharepoint List"
5) Select OK.
If that does not work try...
1) Go to your SP list, select return to Sharepoint classic view
2) Select List Settings
3) Select advanced settings
4) Right down the bottom at "Display this list using the new or classic experience?", select New Experience.
5) Select OK
4) Navigate back to your list from Sharepoint.
5) Now go to PBI and retry the above 5 steps to import your list.
Hi Please ignore my last reply - I have followed your method and you solved every problem I have had! thank you!
By the way for those wondering what "Select implementation 2.0" means - when you connect a SharePoint List to Power BI, after clicking Get Data, you will be presented with 2 options:
1) SharePoint Online List
2) SharePoint list
When you select the first option then you will be able to view the "Implementation 2.0" next to verison 1.0 as well and the option to Select View Mode.
When you select the second option, you dont get the benefits listed above. So I would say chose "Sharepoint Online List"
Thank you
Hi Hansburger. Thank you for you contribution,
However I followed your instrustions and where you lost me is Step 3. When i am prompted to enter site url, i do anot see anywhere written "implementation 2.0". As soon as I input the url , it then shows the Navitgator where I can select the Sharepoint list from my folder. Then after I select my Sharepoint List it then loads the data.
I couldnt really figure out your method from Step 3 going forward. Would you mind explaining in a simpler way or with pictures?
Thank you
