Shape Map - Preview Features

Hi,

I have Microsoft Power BI Desktop Version 2.97.863.0 64-bit (September 2021).  I want to use a Shape Map and apparently the Shape map visual is only available in Power BI Desktop and not in Power BI service or mobile. Since it is in preview, it must be enabled before you can use it. To enable Shape map, select File > Options and Settings > Options > Preview Features, then select the Shape map visual checkbox. You'll need to restart Power BI Desktop after you make the selection.  However, when I go to Options and Settings > Options, I do not have any Preview Features.  Would anyone know why please, or would anyone have an alternative method for using a Shape map in Power BI please?  Thank you

Hi @as1

Yes it should be there.  Anyone else in your workplace who have the same version of PBI Desktop who have the same issue?  Or who have the Shape Map Preview?

Regards

Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your reply.  IT installed the same version for another person, but they don't have Preview Features either.  We have Power BI as part of SQL Enterprise with Software Assurance.

Thanks

HI @as1,

Have you worked with the power bi desktop report server optimate version?

AFAIK, its features are different from the common power bi desktop version. Perhaps you can change to common power bi desktop versions and try again.

Hi Xiaoxin, no I haven't worked with that.  We have SQL Server Entreprise 2017 with Software Assurance, which includes Power BI.  Would it be easy and cost effective for a company to switch?

HI @as1,

So you mean you are working on the server system? (AFAIK, the report data source should not affect the feature usages) If that's the case, have you tried to test with a windows 10 system device or update the power bi desktop to the latest versions?
In addition, any system environment change on your device before the issue appears?

No.  What I mean is, the organisation I worked for purchased SQL Enterprise with Software Assurance.  With that, came Power BI.  We have an on-premises Reporting Server and Power BI Desktop, which we try to update everytime you release a new version (on premises version).

But, on the latest version we updated, there was no option for this visual or for the preview features.

Hi @as1

Try updating PBI Desktop.  Or uninstyall and reinstall.

I'm running Version: 2.98.1025.0 64-bit (October 2021) and the Shape Map Preview Feature is there.

Thanks Phil, but we have only just installed the September version.  Should the preview option not be there anyway?

I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall as I will have to go through our IT department, and took them a few months to get around to updating my latest version.  Thanks
