Set formulas in the columns on the basis of a pivot date that could vary (make an accounting aging).

Good afternoon,

I am new to Power Bi and I am not very fluent yet.

At the time I developed an "aging" to know the age of the receivables on customers but in an excel format. Right now, I would like to repeat the same in Power Bi.
To do so, I would like to know if it is possible to create a field in Power Bi that is the reference date. For example the 31st of March and that certain columns vary based on that date that should be able to be changed according to the user's needs.

Maybe it is a bit of a mess.

In my case, the solution on Excel was based on several formulas that said if an invoice was charged or not to a certain date based on a cell that marked it as my pivot date and all the excel and the results varied depending on that date.

That is to say, for example, I put in a cell the date March 31 that would be my pivot date. And I created columns that said if the invoices were charged or not at that date. For example, let's say we are on July 1st, but I want to know what I was owed on March 31st. So an invoice collected on April 1, would come out as not collected, but if I move the pivot date to April 2, that same invoice would come out as collected. To be able to do this, I need to establish a pivot date and put formulas referring to that pivot date.
In my IT department they tell me that this is not possible, or at least they don't know how to do it.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi @josujimenez ,

Sounds like you need a slicer with dates, and a dynamic measure as the results.

Is it possible to provide some dummy data and expected results?

Hi Stephen,

I have tried to use slicer, and in fact you were true. I think it is the way. Using a slicer with dates, I am making all the colum variable around a pivot date (which my aim). Thank you very much for this.

My proble now is thtat this slicer is in the end a column fully fulfilled with a date, but when I publish the report, the users need to download the pbix and then change the slicer. Is it possible, maybe to add a column saying "what if instead of 30/06/2022 isn 31/12/2021". And then every related columns would change.

Thanks in advanced.

Best regards,

Josu.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Sorry for the delay. I have been ill. I am going to try to provide you some dummy data during and send you once I will have it. I am currently preparing the first part on excel with the idea to go then to power bi but it is 245 mb heavy.  So, too heavy to send it. I am going to try to find the most representtive sample.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi @josujimenez

If I correctly understand then I see no reason to think this cannot be achieved. Most probably it can. In order to assest you further you need to provide sample data (cooy/paste) and provide you illustrations on top of it. Thank you.

Hi @tamerj1 ,

Thank you very much. I am going to try collect a nice picture and share it here.

Best regards,

Josu.
