Hi Microsoft Fabric experts 💡
✋ I’m encountering an issue connecting GitHub to my Microsoft Fabric workspace and would appreciate your insights.
Context:
Under Git Integration in Fabric’s workspace settings, I see the option to connect a GitHub repository, but access appears disabled or restricted. The interface mentions “Preview items” (some item types are only available in preview with Git), but I’m unable to proceed further.
What I’ve Tried:
Confirmed organizational policies allow GitHub access.
Checked network/proxy settings (no restrictions detected).
Questions:
Has anyone faced similar challenges integrating GitHub with Fabric?
Are there known limitations with GitHub in preview mode?
Any recommended workarounds or configuration steps?
My organization don't want to use azure devops!
Thank you in advance for your expertise! 🙏

Hi @sivarajan21 ,
Sorry for the delay responce. GitHub integration is available under Git Integration in Microsoft Fabric workspace settings. However, this feature is currently in preview and is subject to certain limitations particularly when using a trial SKU (e.g., FT1).
Currently, GitHub integration requires tenant-level enablement, which may not be active by default. Trial SKUs like FT1 may not allow full GitHub integration, even if permissions and network settings are correctly configured.
You're on a trial capacity and not planning to use Azure DevOps, this explains why GitHub appears disabled in your workspace settings.

As a temporary alternative until GitHub integration is available on your SKU, you can manage versioning of your artifacts manually using local Git workflows. Here's how you can do that:

Hi @sivarajan21 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community.
GitHub integration in Microsoft Fabric is currently in preview and has some limitations, particularly on trial SKUs like FT1. This feature typically requires tenant-level activation, which may not be enabled by default, and is primarily supported on paid capacities.
Since trial SKUs don’t support all preview features, you might experience restrictions with GitHub integration. To resolve this, upgrading to a paid capacity SKU is recommended.
Alternatively, you can open a support ticket to request tenant-level enablement if you’re on a paid plan. As a temporary workaround, you can use local Git version management.
