Secure connection to Data source

Hello all,

I have already created a report connected to the dev database.

However, the data is secure and I want to see how I can connect to the live database from Power BI Service directly.

If not, I don't want the data stored on my local machine.

Is that possible?

Thank you

@CarlaGh , refer my video on dataflow, dataset

Dataflows and Dataset Design Pattern implementation: https://youtu.be/zwhJ1hWPcrA

Refer series of document - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/transform-model/dataflows/dataflows-introduction-self-serv...

When you publish a report using dataflow or dataset. Open your workspace. There on the dataset click on three dots and go to setting. There you will  have an option for datasource credentials

Hi @CarlaGh,

You can also try to design a report with the original data sources and publish it to the power bi service side.
After these steps, you can create a new report that uses power bi service as data source to get data.

For this new report, it will be linked with live mode(live mode will disable the data model and relationship menu) to the old report based on power bi service connector. (refresh data will be based on the old report)

@CarlaGh , For that you need to create a dataflow and use that. But that will not be a direct query, as dataflow imports data. The database needs to be a cloud database.

In any case, You need to provide credentials in power bi services. When you use desktop file and publish you have to give that under datasource setting.

I can import and schedule refreshes.

Can you provide me please with more documentation that I can refer to ?

Also, I have Azure SQL DB and Blob storage that I am connected to .

Thanks!
