Scheduled Dataset Refresh Question

I've seen past threads on this, so my apologies upfront, but I wanted to ask a few questions with how scheduled refreshes on the Power BI Service affect or coordinate with publishing from the desktop app.

  1. If you publish a desktop file with visuals and stuff and schedule a refresh on Service, those refreshes update the visuals on that report, right? So basically, if you build a file and publish then never need another change, you can have that updating for eternity through the scheduled refreshes on Service?
  2. I know those scheduled refreshes on Service don't extend to your desktop file, but if you make changes to the desktop file without refreshing the data, then republish, will that overwrite any previous dataset refreshes from Service, since the desktop file will have data not reflected on Service? If so, would the next Service refresh update that data again?

I appreciate any answers. Thanks.

You are correct.  If you set up refresh, it should keep going (assuming you are connecting to cloud sources or have a gateway set up).  When you republish the report with the same name, it should overwrite the initial one and adopt the existing refresh schedule.
