Hi
I´m getting the following error in Power BI trying to refresh a dataset in Power BI Service. That refresh normally took me 15-20 minutes, but at this moment I am not able to refresh the dataset.
The dataset is YTD, so is increasing over the year, but until the 15th June 2024 it usually refreshed in 20 minutes, but from the 15th June 2024 in advance is returning me the following error.
Resource Governing: This operation was canceled because there wasn't enough memory to finish running it. Either reduce the memory footprint of your dataset by doing things such as limiting the amount of imported data, or if using Power BI Premium, increase the memory of the Premium capacity where this dataset is hosted. More details: consumed memory 15153 MB, memory limit 15091 MB, database size before command execution 1292 MB. See https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2159753 to learn more.

Hi, @dbernabefdez
As @audreygerred said, this error occurs when there isn’t enough memory available to complete the dataset refresh. Here are some steps you can take to address it.
1. Reduce model size, consider limiting the amount of imported data in your dataset. You can do this by filtering unnecessary data or aggregating it before importing. If your dataset contains large tables, try to optimize them by removing unnecessary columns or reducing granularity.

2. If possible, consider converting your dataset to DirectQuery mode. This mode allows Power BI to query the data source directly without loading it into memory.
3. Scale Up the Capacity, If you’re using Power BI Premium, consider increasing the memory capacity of the Premium instance where your dataset is hosted. If you have multiple capacities available, try assigning your dataset to a different capacity with more resources.

Hi, I have the same issues since mid June 2024 on a pro shared capacity for a small dataset (pbix is just 2,5 Mb) and I think microsoft has an issue on its shared capacity since last week (we are hosted in europe )... but they don't want to recognize it ... My model is just refreshing from sharepoint 2 small tables (11000 and 3000 rows) and there are just 3 very basic calculated columns ... locally it refreshes in a few minutes without consumming much RAM but on service it started to say : Consumed memory 16511 MB, memory limit 16356 MB, database size before command execution 27 MB
And there is no way a 27Mb model like this one can consule more than 16Gb at refresh time !!!
THere is a bug but microsoft is ignoring it at moment I'm afraid.
In PPU capacity it refreshes very fine like on desktop.
Hope Microsoft will do something about it in the next days ....
This error is letting you know that either the query or the calculations are consuming more memory than what is configured for the limit. What P or F SKU do you have?

Hi Audrey, thanks for your comments! I´m not really sure what P or F SKU I have... where can I find that?
What is strange for me is that it was refreshing correctly until that day and after that moment it started failing... from one day to another the increase in data is not that high to return that error.
