Renamining columns in Power Query for Dataverse/Dynamics 365 doesn't do anything

Hi everyone,

We use Dynamics 365 CRM, so when using Power BI it's the Dataverse data source we use.  I'm doing the PL-300 exam so been studying for that and using our own data to practice along.  The issue I'm having though is when I rename columns in Power Query, they don't actually do anything in the report builder.

Here's an example, this is Power Query showing a bunch of columns being renamed, here they are after removing unneeded columns before renaming, showing their default values:

Here they are in the next and final step, renaming the columns:

But then as you can see, as soon as I save and refresh, the report builder ignores all of this and shows instead the "Display Name" values from Dynamics 365.  So, it's not even the field names like schema/logical names as shown in the first screen shot, and it's not the names I used, but ones from Dynamics directly:

Does anyone know how to fix this or why this happens?  I thought the whole point of Power BI was that you use Power Query to clean up and normalize all the data before building any reports.  If I right click any field in the report builder and go to Rename, it lets me rename them and it works just fine.

In case it helps, here's the Power Query steps:

Thanks so much!

@psychobunny83 I've had similar experiences. What you can do to fix is just bring them in and then rename the columns in the Data panel while in Desktop (not Power Query Editor).

Thank you!  I noticed that does work, I guess I was just so stoked to use Power Query and have everything "perfect" before even touching the report builder so was disappointed that the very first legit report I try to make gets stuck on a basic rename columns step! 🙂

Well, @psychobunny83 it SHOULD work renaming in Power Query Editor. Why it doesn't for this particular connector, I have no idea.
