Rename column name in power query not working

Hello,

I am trying to get data from dataverse usin power bi dekstop. I am able to change colmn name in power query but when I apply my changes, column in deskopt are not changed.

There is no errors, i erased my cache and tried again, not working. I am using this version Version : 2.138.782.0 64-bit (novembre 2024).

Do you have any clues on my problem ?

Have a nice day

Hi @Missel

Renaming of Columes must be done in model and not in Power query.

I've found it here:

Hello,

Thaks for your answer. I did all yur description but it does not work.

I have another information. It seems that some column change and others not. The difference between them is when I renamed column inside dataverse, this name is reflected in Power BI. But if I did not change the name is dataverse then in Power BI renaming functon is applied.

Any clues on this ?

@Missel

  • Double-check that the column renaming step appears correctly in the "Applied Steps" pane in Power Query.
  • After applying your changes in Power Query, ensure you refresh the data in Power BI Desktop by clicking Home > Refresh.

💌 If this helped, a Kudos 👍 or Solution mark would be great! 🎉

Hello @Missel ,

I think the changes are not being applied when you click apply and close, try removing a column  and click apply, then it should reflect the changes.

then you can add the column again, just to make sure that the rename changes are being reflected.

Hi @Missel ,
Have you Tried Clearing Cached Metadata

Power BI Desktop might be holding onto cached metadata, which prevents the new column name from showing.

Fix:

  1. Clear Data Cache:
    • Go to File > Options and Settings > Options > Data Load.
    • Click on Clear Cache under Data Cache Management Options.
  2. Clear Model Cache:
    • Disable the query in Data Load > Enable parallel loading of tables and reapply your changes.
  3. Refresh Metadata:
    • In Power Query, right-click on the table in the query pane and choose Refresh Preview.

Let me know if this resolves your issue!
