Refresh not working on web, have to refresh and publish out of desktop version

I have a refresh button on my dashboard for viewers to be able to refresh on demand (as well as a scheduled refresh). The refresh is showing successful in the web version (no errors whatsoever) but it's not refreshing any of the data values in the web version. I have to go into the Power BI desktop app, refresh from there, then publish in order for the data changes to show on my dashboard. The data being pulled to the datasets in Power BI is stored in Sharepoint.

Please help. How do I get the web version to load the data values so the refresh works on demand?

Hello @adaring,

Can you please try these steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Check Data Source Permissions:

    • Ensure that the credentials and permissions for the data source (SharePoint in this case) are set up correctly in Power BI Service. If there are any authentication issues, it can prevent data from being refreshed.
  2. Verify Data Source Connection:

    • Check if the data source connection details in your Power BI Service dataset match those in your Power BI Desktop file. Sometimes, discrepancies can cause issues with data refresh.
  3. Check Data Gateway:

    • If your data source is on-premises or behind a firewall, you may need to set up and configure a Power BI Data Gateway. Ensure the gateway is running and correctly configured to connect to your data source.
  4. Test Manual Refresh:

    • Try manually triggering a refresh from the Power BI Service to see if it brings in the updated data. This can help you determine if the issue is specific to the refresh button on your dashboard.
  5. Browser Cache:

    • Sometimes, browser cache can cause issues with displaying refreshed data in the Power BI Service. Try clearing your browser cache and refreshing the page to see if that resolves the issue.

Should you require further details or information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

I figured out the issue: the dataset is refreshing however the visuals need a manual refresh as well to fully update my live dashboard tiles. This is not a DirectQuery, and everything I'm finding says visual refresh only works with this data type.

Is there a way to refresh the visuals without having to go into the report to manually refresh? I have a refresh button on my dashboard and the goal is to have the dataset and report visuals update when this refresh button is pressed (flow in power automate). Seems like a convoluted process for a simple refresh.
