Query Folding - Dataverse v Azure SQL Question

I keep trying to build DAX expressions in PBI Desktop with a direct query to Dataverse table, but I keep getting the "Query cannot be folded to database" error. Does this mean that I need to be using SQL server (for ex azure sql server) so that these queries can be folded to the datasource for me?
