Publish powerbi dashboard file

I have built dashboard using powerbi desktop version. I don't have power bi pro version for publishing it as service in my organisation

Is there a way I can share the pbix file to all internal users for them to use the dashboard for view only. I have teams and sharepoint repository to leverage in my organisation

Hi @SureshA

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

I would like to support the guidance provided earlier by @lbendlin

Due to limitations on sharing .pbix files without Power BI Pro or Premium (Fabric) licensing, consider exporting your Power BI report to PDF or PowerPoint and uploading it to SharePoint or Teams for read-only access. This method doesn't allow interaction but ensures full control, centralization, and prevents edits or overwrites. If interactivity is essential, upgrading to Power BI Pro or using Fabric  is the only supported option for browser-based, read-only viewing.

@v-karpurapud thanks for your response

@v-karpurapud is there a way to send the read-only file by mail after uploading in SharePoint based on defined frequency

is there a way to send the read-only file

No. Once you send a file by email it is no longer read-only. There is no password protection like in Excel (which is easy to defeat anyway)

You have created a report.  A dashboard can only be created in the service (which you don't have access to)

Place the .PBIX file on the SharePoint, and instruct your internal users to install Power BI Desktop so they can download and open the .PBIX

@lbendlin thanks. How do I restrict them not to update or overwrite the pbix file since I have done the derivation using dax, Any customisation I want to manage centrally and upload to SharePoint

The purpose is for them to view the dashboard by accessing the pbix as read-only

That is futile and unnecessary. SharePoint comes with Version History so you can always refer to a safe version, even if they have write access.

@lbendlin thanks. Can the users access the report from browser without installing power bi desktop using the powerbi pbix file. I am looking for a solution to roll out to the user to access the reports for read only without customising the pbix file

There is no free browser based version.

So what is the recommendation

Use what you have (and stop trying to prevent users from doing things you cannot control) or start paying for a Fabric capacity that allows these restrictions to be imposed.

@lbendlin Can I make the pbix read-only since I don't want users to edit the dashboard and customize. Changes if any i want to make centrally and upload into SharePoint.
