Problem with a computed column

I am using the below formula to generate a computed column

Organization =
IF(ISBLANK(ColumnA),
IF(ISBLANK(ColumnB),
ColumnC,
ColumnB),
ColumnA)

All the three columns (ColumnA, ColumnB and ColumnC) are of text datatypes. But I am seeing the error

expressions that yield variant data-type cannot be used to define computed columns

with the computed column. Any idea what  could be the reason?

Thanks for the reply but I figured out the root cause for this. It was because of some null values in the incoming data. The preview was misleading me. Once I refreshed all the datasets I stumbled upon the rootcause.

Can you post some sample raw data so we can test out?  Your code seems correct, so there are probably external factors at work...
