Hi @Thiyagu1,

In your scenario, if you open the .PBIX file, you can click Refresh button to get updated data from Excel file.

As you mentioned, you can't refresh successfully, is there any error throws out?  Also can you make sure which file you are opening to refresh data, .PBIX file or .PBIT  file?

Am using Power BI Desktop version and I couldn't save the .PBIX file, it saves as paint image and am umable to open. Am only able to save as PBIT report. Can you pleas ehelp?

Hi @Thiyagu1,

Which Power BI Desktop version did you run? The latest version is 2.39.4526.362, please check if the same issue occurs in this version.

As you mentioned "I couldn't save the .PBIX file, it saves as paint image and am umable to open", how about you save a new report as .PBIX use the latest desktop version? If issue persists, please share detail steps or screenshots with us to reproduce the issue.

Hi Thiyagu,

It never happened to me. Can you please make sure that the location of your excel file is still the same. If Not, Can you please Go to the "File Tab", Select "Options & Settings", Go to "Data Source Settings" and at the bottom, Select "Change Source", Copy the new file path and it would work.

If you have exported your file as a PowerBI Template previous month, You can Import the Template file.

1. Double-click on the PBIT file in a machine with Power BI Desktop installed. This will launch Power BI Desktop and get them into the “Import Template” flow.

2.Within Power BI Desktop, clicking on “File –> Import –> Power BI Template”. This will create a new Power BI Desktop file based upon the contents defined in the template.

Thanks & Regards,
Bhavesh

What do you mean you opened the power bi template?  A template is not the same as a report. Did you mean report?

I will not give you bad advice, even if you unknowingly ask for it.

Yes this has also happened with me. If you are working on Power BI Desktop, you must have to save the excel file after incorporation of the data. Then go to BI Desktop and refresh it. It will work.
