Power bi data set and SQL server

Hi All,

Can we create a report based on "Power BI Datasets" and data from SQL Server - "SQL Query".

Business scenario:

  1. There is a online excel file where users will update data regularly, power bi dataset created for this as this data is almost live.
  2. There is similar data coming from sql server, sql query accessing this data straight from database.

Now i want to compare both data sets and identify the matches/mismatches.

So, how can my report access both data sets above Or is there any other options that i need to consider (Live excel data with SQL Query data)?

Any help would be highly appriciated.

Regards,

Chandu.

Hi @Anonymous ,

If you connect the LC(live connection) data source, you cannot connect to other data sources. Similarly, after connecting a data source, you cannot connect to the LC data source. You can change the data set of LC mode to DQ(Direct Query) mode, and then connect to the data source of SQL Server (import mode or DQ mode is fine).

You have connect using Import instead of Direct Query/Live connection.

No, it doesn't work that way. As soon as we add the second data source it will display the below message.

Yes. You can connect to multiple sources from a single report on Power BI.

Connect to one source at each time and load it and it should work.

Please give it a like and Accept it as a solution if you think my answer helped.

Cheers!
