Power Bi creating a comment field

Is it possible to create a column in a table on a Power BI dashboard that acts as a notes field, where future users can, for example, write short explanations on why a delivery is late for example? If yes, how?

Hi @Anonymous

Power bi is read only. You would not be able write back. But you can acheive this using power apps.
Suggesting you to check out this video:

Hope this helps!!

Hi @Anonymous,

While it's true that Power BI itself doesn't support direct writeback functionality, I suggest you try using the Power BI User Feedback Pro custom visual as an alternative for collecting notes and feedback directly within your Power BI report.

This custom visual allows users to enter comments or notes, such as explanations for delays, and submit them in a structured way, all within the Power BI environment. The feedback can be stored in various locations like SharePoint, Excel, or other data storage systems, making it more efficient for tracking and reviewing user inputs.

The User Feedback Pro visual can be easily integrated into your reports and provides a more seamless experience for your users to input feedback directly on the report page, without the need for external tools like PowerApps.

Let me know if you'd like more information on setting it up, or need further assistance!

Hi @Anonymous

Writeback is not natively supported in Power BI.  Power BI service allows for commenting but not directly in the viz itself and certainly not through another or within a column like you can in Excel. However,  you can use PowerApps to allow leaving comments in relation to the fields in your viz but using the PowerApps viz and not tables or matrices. Here is a demo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_4N2B-sDgw

There also third party service providers that allow real-time writeback like Inforiver and PowerOnBI.
