Power BI don't see oracle client

Hi All

For a week I was fighting with PowerBI.

I cannot force him to connect to Oracle DB

I hope I read all articles about that.

eg.

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Oracle-connection-error/td-p/70451
http://www.yanaberkovich.com/Blog/connecting-powerbi-desktop-to-oracle/

http://www.itprotoday.com/microsoft-sql-server/connecting-oracle-database-sql-server-and-microsoft-b...

My version of PowerBI is June 2018 64 bit so i install 64bit ODAC from  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/downloads/index-090165.html

Of course i checked everything like path values, etc.

After installation PBI tells me that "preffered provider Oracle.DataAccess.Client id not installed"

Whed I proceed then it tells me that I havo to install client better than 8.1.7

What else should I do ?

HELP 🙂

HI @mmielech,

If you can confirm successed installed a the valid odac client on device(with power bi desktop installed), you can ignore this notice and continue you operation.

Connect To Oracle Database

Thanks for your reply, but I still cannot solve that

I have to mention that I have installed Oracle Forms, because I use old erp system based on that

I can connect to that database via plsql dev, co connection works perfectly

New client installation is always succesful.

Every tnsnames.ora has new entry according to examples

I think that there is a problem with oracle_home or something else, bu still dont know what else can I do

One step forward

Client ODAC122010_x64 12.2.0. installed but still cannot connect via option "Oracle Database"

Created tnsnames.ora in netword\admin folder

Opened ODBC, created 64bit new connection based on this new driver and it works (only by sql statement - same as here : https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/ODBC-Connection-error-07006/td-p/278165)

Why ?

Can I do anything else to connect without ODBC ?

HI @mmielech,

Have you try to install old version which power bi document mentioned? I think it might be compatibility issue between power bi and oracle client which I can't reproduce.

In addition, you can also submit a support ticket on power bi support page.
