Power BI desktop Git integration

We are using version control through Git integration on our Fabric workspaces. As we are using Power BI desktop to create pbib project files; it would be very nice if we could clone repositories, commit and push changes etc. from within Power BI dekstop, instead of having to use external tool like VSCode...

Could we expect git integration in Power BI desktop in the future?

Hi @h_l_de_boer  - As of now, Power BI Desktop does not offer built-in Git integration for directly cloning repositories, committing, or pushing changes from within the application. However, this is a highly requested feature by the Power BI community, and Microsoft is aware of the demand for better version control integration.

The most recent updates indicate that Microsoft is focusing on enhancing Git integration in Power BI Service through Microsoft Fabric, allowing better collaboration, version control, and deployment workflows.

These features include connecting workspaces to Git repositories (like GitHub and Azure DevOps) for versioning and CI/CD pipelines.

For Power BI Desktop, there is currently no confirmed release date or roadmap for direct Git integration. Your best option remains using external tools like VSCode, GitHub Desktop, or Azure DevOps for version control workflows with .pbix files.
