Power BI Informix connection error

Hello,

I am trying to connect to Power BI using IBM Informix Database (Beta) but after I set up my credentials I get the following error:

Details: "Microsoft Informix Client: No such host is known SQLSTATE=08S01 SQLCODE=-1336".

I searched the forum but could not find any same error posts, so I am writing it here.

My connection is OK when I test on Setnet32.

I am currently using Power BI version 2.37.4464.361 64-bit.

I also tried to create and use ODBC but when I do, I get this error:

The DNS specified contains a mismatch architectures between the Driver and Application.

Any help?

After many unsucessful attempts, I contacted Microsoft support. After some remote access and data mining, the Power BI developer team found the problem:

After a few changes the error I was receiving changed from -1336 to -1040, wich meant EXCSAT_FAILURE, a protocol DRDA error from a Informix server.

Power BI uses DRDA protocol. I was using olsoctcp, I have been using the same port to all Microsoft products I currently use, so I had to change to a port that was configured with DRDA and it finally worked.

I'm replying to solve this topic and for anyone wich may have a similar problem.

Hello gansoxd

Thanks for your solution.

Could you please post step by step how you change the port? did you do it on SetNet32?

Thank you!

Hi gansoxd:

I am running into the same error that you initially reported (SQLCODE=-1336).

Where and how did you configure a port to use DRDA protocol to resolve the issue? Did you have to configure this port on the machine running Informix database server? Or did you configure this on the client machine running Power BI?

And how exactly did you configure this port? Did you have to load drivers from the Informix SDK to do it?

Thanks,

You might want to post your question and problem to the International Informix Users Group (IIUG) Forums. You can join the IIUG at www.iiug.org (membership is free) and then register for one or more of the forums there. Post you question and you are likely to get answers from experienced Informix users as well as Informix developers from IBM and HCL!

I would respond here, but for some reason I cannot see the OP's question and that previous thread, so I don't know exactly what your problem is. I do not monitor this forum (only saw this in a Google alert), so post to the IIUG Forums your original problem.

Hi gansoxd:

I am trying to troubleshoot the same error that you originally encountered.

My question is, how and where did you configure a port to use DRDA protocol? Did you have to configure a port on the machine running the Informix database server to use DRDA protocol? Or did you configure a port on the Windows client running Power BI to use DRDA?

Thanks,

Hi @gansoxd @arify@,

I noticed you are attempting a Pronto connection, which I am too but getting the same issue as you are.  What protocol did you end up using to make it work?  Or did you need Pronto to fix it up for you?

Sorry, I am not an IT person, so struggling with the tech speak.

Hello arify, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have seen this thread, but the error from it is SQLCODE=-1037 and my error is SQLCODE=-1366.

I checked everything from this thread but still can't connect.

Can you please send us a frown with traces?

For traces: Options > Diagnostics > Enable Tracing (Choose Verbose) > Open Traces folder, then reproduce the error. Trace files should appear in the traces folder. Please attach those traces in your frown email.

Thanks

Thank you!

Hi, arify.

I got the trace files but I don't know how to attach it to my frown email.

Should I post all the text here?

Also, there are 2 log files, wich one should I attach? Both?

This is the first one (Microsoft.Mashup.Container.NetFX40.6764.2016-08-11T12-08-37-342334).

Then there is another (PBIDesktop.6336.2016-08-11T12-08-18-998005). It is too big to post here as text.

If trying the recommendations in the other thread didn't work, I don't really have much to add.. Can you send a frown email if you're sure it's not a network issue?

There's a smiley on the top left corner or PBI Desktop, right next to it there's a little down-button, you can see the send a frown button in there. Please add the traces as well (if they're too big you can attach as zip)

Thanks

Hi, arify, thanks again for your reply.

I just sent the frown. I hope it contains something useful.

Also, I sent it using the Power BI 32 bits version (at first I was using the 64 bits version but I downloaded the 32 bits version to test as well, sadly it didn't work too).

I can send it using the 64 bits version as well,  I don't think it will change too much.

Thanks in advance!
