Power BI / Excel connect to Oracle datasource

Hello gang, hoping you can help, really struggling connecting to oracle datasource,

I am able to connect with Oracle/SQL developer, but want to pull data directly from Power BI and Power Query

with SQL Developer i connect without issue, but when i try connecting with Power BI i get this error 'unable to connect' (see attachment)

i tried direct connect by server and also using ODBC, but no luck on both

ODBC Connections are shown below

i did install the proper oracle client, but maybe its a driver issue? or maybe its how i connect?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @vandam2 ,

Based on the error message you shared, it seems that you have a mismatch between the bitness of your Power BI Desktop application and your ODBC driver. You are using a 64-bit Power BI Desktop, but a 32-bit ODBC driver.

To fix this problem, you need to install the 64-bit ODBC driver for Oracle that matches your Power BI Desktop version. You can download it here.

After installing the 64-bit ODBC driver, you need to create a new ODBC data source name (DSN) using the 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator tool. You can find it in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools or by typing odbcad32.exe in the Run dialog box.

When creating the new DSN, make sure you select the correct driver name, such as Oracle in OraClient12Home1_64bit or similar. Then enter the connection details as you did before and test the connection.

Once you have created the new DSN, you can use it in Power BI Desktop to connect to your Oracle database.

@vandam2 , Make sure the recommended Oracle connector is installed, its path added to the env variable and you have added the TNS name entry in the driver folder
