Power BI Desktop unable to add measure

Hi Guys

I am having an issue with Power BI desktop. The data source for this report is a simple excel document with roughly 8000 rows of data.

Data imports succesfully however when I click on add measure, it seems to hang and can't recover from this

Any guidance?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Kreenasen , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

Even though your data loads fine, if WebView2 is missing, outdated or corrupted, Power BI will freeze when trying to access features like the formula bar. Reinstall the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which is the most reliable fix in cases like this. Once installed, restart your system and launch Power BI again. This step alone fixes the issue in most scenarios. Download the Evergreen Standalone Installer (x64) directly from Microsoft here: Microsoft Edge WebView2. Next, make sure you're running the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Older builds may not work well with newer versions of WebView2 or can include unresolved bugs. Download the most recent version here: Get the Power BI tools and apps you need.

If Power BI still hangs, it could be due to corrupted local configuration files. Close Power BI, then go to: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
Rename or delete this folder. Power BI will regenerate it when reopened, often resolving UI and performance issues. While your dataset is relatively small, it’s also worth quickly checking system performance. Use Task Manager to confirm you're not maxing out memory or CPU while running Power BI. Microsoft recommends at least 8 GB RAM. If you're near that limit, try closing background apps to free up resources.

If none of the above resolves the issue, try opening the same PBIX file on another machine. If it works there, the issue is specific to your current setup, either with WebView2, OS environment or hardware. Lastly, if the freeze continues, you can gather deeper diagnostics by checking Event Viewer for any errors related to Power BI or WebView2.

Thank you.

Thanks

The machine itself is quite capable. 16Gb of Ram with a 13th Gen I7.

The problem seems to be from the version on the Microsoft Store, as I uninstalled and reinstalled from the same source but the issue persisted.

I then downloaded the build dated 8th May 2025 from the Microsoft website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494) . This version works perfectly.

I am now able to use the full features of the application.
