Dear all,
we have problems with the connection to "Power Bi Desktop".
Our colleagues are starting "Power BI-Desktop" and then they are clicking on "get data", "dataverse" and then they are typing in the correct domain and clicking on "directQuery". Then they are sign-in with theier o365-account credentials.
It's working fine over an internet connection. But over vpn (sRAS or Zscaler) and over the company-network it's not working. We got the following error message:
"DataSource.Error:Microsoft SQL: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider. TCP Provider, error 0 -Der angegebene Netzwerkname ist nicht mehr verfügbar [the specified network name is no longer available])
Another failure is, that a colleague can not share a report in powerbi with another colleague. He got the error message "Das Modell konnte nicht geladen werden/cannot load model." At the end of the error message: "https://wabi-north-europe-f-primary-redirect.analysis.windows.net"
We tried following steps, without success:
- the powerbi version is up-to-date (same problems by useing an older "powerbi" version)
- the TCP ports "1433" and "5558" is activated on the clients
- deactivating the client-firewall
- correctly rights for CRM
- "TDS"-endpoint is acitvated
- "UseDefaultCredentialsForProxy" to the client-registry is activated
- shortly: adding app.powerbi.com, api.powerbi.com and *.analysis.windows.net to the whiteliste of our proxy-server
Is the "Power Bi desktop"-version not supporting an connection over vpn or proxy-server?
Can anyone help please, or has got an idea, to solve the problem?
Many thanks!
Regards

Hi @MichaelD1 ,
The connection mode you use is Direct Query, which is to directly send queries to obtain data sources. The existence of a firewall or VPN may prevent Direct Query from sending queries.
Reference: VPN data load issue
Using Direct Connect to SSAS Tabular DB via VPN, and the connection is lost, Power BI hangs
How do you share it with colleagues? To share the pbix file with him or share it on Power BI Service. In the case of pbix file sharing, because your colleague does not have relevant credentials, they cannot open the report .
