Power BI App is not updating the report even after clicking on "update app"

Hi,

When I update the power BI App with new content, the changes are not visible instantly. I can see my changes only when I click on "Update App" Multiple times. Also Few users are not able to see the reports when we add the content for the first Time.

Thanks

Hi @Renuka123

This is a normal behaviour when you work with apps to publish your reports.

If you want to have an instant update you need to directly share the reports instant of the apps.

I once wrote an article about different sharing approaches:

Scaling Power BI #01 — Architecture approaches to leverage the Power BI Service with a Pro licence |...

If you read it I highly recommend to also read the second article since it focuses on typical pitfalls in permission management.

That is incorrect. Sharing methods and screen updates are unrelated.

Hi @lbendlin

Since Renuka wrote about the need to update the app before the intended behavior is coming I think my comment is right since it adressess the challenge. When you update a directly shared report then the changes on report level are available to the report reader without another udpate which has to be triggered by you (e.g. app update).

And since the request got accepted as a solution I think everything should be fine. The definiton of instant that it means a direct screen update (and not a report update) was something added by you.

Best regards

Michael

"Update App" is required when you made meta data changes  (column changes, UI changes etc).  It is not required for data updates.

Your report users look at a web browser.  Unless they take action (switch between pages, hit F5 or other actions) they will not pick up any of your data changes.  For meta data changes they need to be closing/reopening the browser tab, or hit F5.

All of this is working as designed (but admittedly not as expected by a lot of users).
