Power App visual not filtering based on charts in PowerBI report

Hi

I hope someone can help

I have an existing power App which I would like to add to my power BI report

The functionality I would like is to use a piechart to filter the app entries. i.e. if I see that person X has the most amount of tasks in the database (via the pie chart) I would like to click on their segment and the app visual would just filter to their tasks.

Both the pie chart (via BI) and the app are connected to the same Sharepoint list

Thanks for your help

Matt

Hi @Matt22365 , did you solved this? I'm having the same problem.

Any accepted solution?

@AlexGurovich

Not sure if this is still relevant, but might want to check out this thread

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/PowerBIIntegration-connection-not-working/td...

Follow the tutorial from Rezza

& Make sure to make editing using power bi service (publish to workspace first, then click edit the power apps visual), not in power bi desktop (else might the items might not appear when using power bi integration)

Hi

Im afraid I never found a solution to this

Hi

To add some detail, the app also does not filter when I select the app visual and use the filters pane

Thanks

Matt

Hi @Matt22365 ,

The PowerApps custom visual has these limitations:

  • You cannot create or modify apps when using the PowerApps custom visual in Power BI desktop, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox. We recommend that you first publish your report to the Power BI service. Then use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome to create new apps and make changes to apps.
  • If you change the data fields associated with the visual, you must edit the app from within the Power BI service by selecting the ellipsis (...) and then selecting Edit. Otherwise, the changes won't be propagated to PowerApps, and the app will behave in unexpected ways.
  • The PowerApps custom visual cannot trigger a refresh of the Power BI report or Power BI data source. If you write back data from the app to the same data source as the report, your changes won't be reflected immediately. Changes are reflected on the next scheduled refresh.
  • The PowerApps custom visual cannot filter the data or send any data back to the report.

Please check if you have encountered any of these limitations.

Yingjie Li

@Matt22365 , When you add power BI app, You need to add a few columns there(Juts like we add a field to visuals). Make sure you have added columns you want to pass and interactions are on.

Hi

Thanks for the quick response.

I have added the same columns into the values field as I have in the app itself but the app visual still is not filtering.

All the other visuals on the screen are filtering so i think its the connection between BI and App

Thanks

Apologies, I see it now

However the pie chart does not filter the app gallery

Thanks

Matt

@Matt22365 Sorry, hard to visualize what you are seeing. Can you post screen shots at all?

Hi

sure thing, I have attached a simplified screenshot

The issue I am having is that the app does not filter when using the pie charts (or a slicer)

I have changed the category in the bottom pie chart to match the details in the app gallery but that didnt have any affect

Thanks

@Matt22365 Can you also screen shot your Edit Interactions with the Pie chart selected and the PowerApps in the screen shot as well? Thanks.
