Possible bug with visual? Cannot recreate same result.

Hello all,

A few days ago I made this visual, a very simple count of IDs on a time series line graph. They are whole number IDs and I'm just counting them. Here's what is in the visualisation pane:

Today I wanted to make a similar line; the same date column but instead distinct counting the Person ID (another column in the same table). But I can't! It simply doesn't do anything when I drag the PersonID into the "Values" box.

I then tried to recreate literally the same line graph as above with literally the same 2 fields, and it won't let me. I have the exact same problem where the Assignment ID field straight up will not do anything when dragged into the Values box.

I also can't make a bar, column, or really anything with either ID field in the values box. But I can make a table visual that is just you know, a table of raw results. Curiously, I can no longer summarise in the table - the options are just gone.

The ID fields are both data type Whole Number. I haven't changed them, except briefly when I switched them to Decimal Number to see if it had something to do with it. The date is a date hierachy on an underlying date/time field.

Is this a bug? Have I inadvertently altered some setting about summarisation? Am I being gaslit by a piece of software? Please help!!

Hi @abcd ,

Is there any Sigma Symbol mark in front of the ID fields? Did you set the summarization type as sum or others just like below screenshot? Did you make any change in your data model recently?

In addition, please check whether you face the similar problem with the one in the following thread. If yes, you can refer its solution to fix it.

Best Regards

@abcd ,

try to create a measure and try

distinctcount(Table[Person ID])

or change summarization or person id and try

this doesn't solve the problem, it just sidesteps it.

my question is: why have summarisation options seemingly disappeared overnight for whole number fields? I can set a default summarisation but I can't even choose a summarisation at all when I look in the fields pane. It is just completely baffling.

Thank you so much, this solved it! I think I had accidentally added a calculation group when sorting my measures into folders using Tabular Editor and it flicked the "Discourage implicit measures" setting, even though I deleted the calculation group straight after
