Performance optimization with measures in same query?

Hello!

Unfortunately, I have some performance issues with my Power BI. I think this is mostly driven by the hardware I am using (older laptop with "only" 8GB memory which I see is maxed out when I use Power BI). However, I am trying to optimize my report as well and had a thought in regard to the measures. I read online that for better speed one should limit the amount of queries in use.

So far, I have created an extra Query with an empty table to save all the measures I create here. However, these measures refer to a different query then (e.g. in query "Measures" I have a measure which is taking the sum of a column in a different query "Forecast")

Now my question: Has anyone made any experience with that? Would it be helpful to shift all the measures in the corresponding query as well? I am asking upfront because it would take me some time to do that.

Thank you very much in advance and best regards!

@Variation_31415,

The location (home table) of a measure does not affect its performance. I prefer to put all measures in a Measures table and use display folders for segregation.

Thank you very much for the reply/explanation. May I ask in one more question (maybe you know the answer aswell), are published reports in the online version faster to load? e.g. when switching pages in the desktop application it sometimes takes a few seconds. Is that faster or slower in the published report for users who are only viewing the data and not working with it as I do?

The speed likely depends on numerous factors, so it may vary depending on data source, storage mode, etc.
