Password protecting published dashboard

Just double checking whether you can password protect access to a dashboard that has been published on the web?

If not, any suggestions for the most effective way to limit access to a dashboard to partners both in and outside and organisation?

Many thanks from a novice / new Power BI user.

Regards,

Kerry

@kerryf

Hi,

You already have many suggestions. Here is some additional information.
1. If you want to restrict access, don't publish to web.
2. Partners in or outside the organization must sign in with the exact email addresses that are granted access. Sharing dashboard only grant view access.
3. Power BI embedded can provide sharing. The access is controlled by the app itself.

@kerryf It is not possible to set password for access when using a dashboard/reports through publish to web.

This is what Microsoft says:

"When you use Publish to web, the report or visual you publish can be viewed by anyone on the Internet. There is no authentication used when viewing these reports. Only use Publish to web with reports and data that the anyone on the Internet (unauthenticated members of the public) should be able to see. Before publishing this report, ensure you have the right to share the data and visualizations publicly. Do not publish confidential or proprietary information. If in doubt, check your organization's policies before publishing".

For more details click here.

Another options could be trying out Power BI Embedded (I haven't tried though) or last option is to subscribe users to Power BI Online license to get password access to the reports.

Hope this helps !

I was about to suggest Row Level Security but that doesn't work with Publish to the Web.  You might want to consider Power BI Embedded.
