Pass values to parameters from power bi report

Hi,  I have a requirement to fetch historical data based on the date range entered by the user into dataset. The data is fetched from Athena over ODBC connection with a SQL query.

For this, approach taken by me is to add start_date and end_date parameters in the query editor and passing them to the Athena SQL query to fetch the data.  This approach is working fine.

To change the date range, user to has to go to Transform Data->Edit Parameters which brings up the dialog to enter the start_date and end_date ranges.

Once confirmed, user has to click on Apply Changes button for the query to execute for the new date range and fetch the values.

I have also looked at other option of filtering out the values using date slicer but for that all of the data should be present in the dataset.

Is there any option available for passing the values from power bi report to the parameters?  I have not been able to find any option supporting this approach.

with rgds,

Manish

You can do that with Dynamic Query Parameters but only for Direct Query data sources.

Hi @manishpadmajan ,

As @lbendlin  said, you could use Dynamic M query parameters in Power BI Desktop.

I just wanted to add some notes here, there are some considerations and limitations for this way:
