Hi,
I am developing Power BI report and embed this in a we page of an application. The Power BI report should use the data from SQL View in SQL Server using Direct Query option.
The data from SQL view should be fetched only for a particular user by passing the username by delcaring a parameter to the query.
Finally the username should be supplied from the Power BI report URL by passing the username as query string, part of the URL.
Please advise if it is possible to pass the username as part of the Power BI report URL? Is there a better way to pass the username to the SQL view?
Please help
Thanks in advance.
We have created a Power Bi report to be displayed in a web application and the report should display the information based on the user viewing the report.
The report should refresh by gathering the data for particular user from the SQL View in SQL Server database. I believe Power BI supports Query parameter to pass the parameter to the query but how do we pass the parameter to the Power BI report?
We need to pass the user name of logged in user as parameter to the Power BI so that the data can be fetched from SQL view by passing the user name to the SQL view (Direct Query method).
Our questions are:
Any thoughts or suggested solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @pradeepiqss,
Based on my research, you could not get this feature currently, you could vote for this idea: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/34765492-allow-to-pass-parameter-...

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your opinion. Is there any other way to pass the username of logged in user to the Power BI report? so that the report data can be gathered using this parameter.
Thanks
