I applied a page-level filter to the Calendar table (>= 1/1/2020) but am still seeing data coming from earlier dates:
I think this is a simple problem but am I missing something here? The Date column is formatted as a Date data type.
Solved! Go to Solution.
We're not going to be using the date hierarchy in a table visual, it was just used to demonstrate the behavior. We are going to be using it in a slicer visual.
Prior to recent updates, the filters applied to the date hierarchy just fine. Instead of just providing workarounds, the developers need to know why this is happening in the first place and fix it.
Thanks for the replies from SamWiseOwl.
Hi @olimilo ,
1.For automatically generated date hierarchy it is possible to add another field to the visual, which can then be successfully filtered.
2.If you don't want to add a field, then we need to create the hierarchy manually.
For example, create two new columns:
Year = YEAR('Table (2)'[Date])
Month = MONTH('Table (2)'[Date])
Right-click on the Year column and select "Create Hierarchy":
Drag and drop the Month column into the hierarchy in the model view.
The result is as follows:

Hi @olimilo
I know this is a daft question...but did you click Apply Filter?
I ask because yours says is on or after Wednes...
Whereas when I apply the same filter it shows the date.
Could you hove over the funnel icon on your visual (top right) and take a screenshot of the filters on the visual please.

Had to rebuild the tab but the issue persists:
Could you take a screen shot hovering over the Funnel in the top right of the visual please 🙂
Could you share the PBIX file with just the Date table in it?
I've sometimes fixed bugs by creating the visual on a new page, NOT copy paste.

The visuals in this new tab were made from scratch, not copy pasted. Here's a stripped version of the same PBIX, I just left the Calendar table intact:
E: I just noticed, this only happens when using the date hierarchy. I toggled from using the actual date value and the hierarchy and the date value is showing the data just fine:
Hi @olimilo
That is a really interesting side affect.
Since the visual treats the hierarchy as 4 seperate columns you can't do a filter using the original date column. If you change it from date hierarchy back to date it works fine:
I don't think there is a work around bar using your own seperate calendar table: https://www.wiseowl.co.uk/blog/s2947/calendarauto-table.htm
Then you can filter on year or date as you see fit.
If someone hasn't already raised a ticket for this I'd consider doing so, might be a bug!
