PBIP-project connected to dataset gives error on opening in Desktop

I have a pbix file that is connected to a dataset in the Power BI Service. As a pbix everything works fine.

When I convert it to pbip, it gives an error stating it can't load the model.

Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AzureClient, PowerBI Request Failed.

Action: Getting the PBI shared database name

Description: {"error":{"code":"PowerBIEntityNotFound","pbi.error":{"code":"PowerBIEntityNotFound","parameters":{},"details":[],"exceptionCulprit":1}}}

Why is this and how to solve it?

@MichaelSamiotis the fact that it works as pbix but not as pbip should be enough to exclude these reasons?
@MattiaFratello that was what I did and caused the error. Apparently there is something different for a pbip file when connecting to a dataset in the Power BI Service?

Hi @japiepatat ,

Could you please check the following info for the further troubleshooting?

  • If hit any following limitations?vyiruanmsft_0-1738820372444.png
  • If the connected semantic model in the pbix file has been renamed, moved or deleted?
  • Does the person opening the PBIP file have the sufficient permissions to access the connected semantic model?
  • Please try to open the PBIX file and save it as a PBIP file format. When you open the newly saved PBIP file, does it open properly?

Solved: Issue with .pbip format - Microsoft Fabric Community

The PowerBIEntityNotFound error is usually shown from either a permissions issue or the inability to find the dataset in the Power BI Service. Make sure the dataset exists, you have the right permissions, and verifying your connection settings, you should be able to resolve the issue.

Hi @japiepatat, I would try to recreate the pbip from scratch

  • Open the PBIX file in Power BI Desktop.
  • Reconnect to the Power BI Service dataset.
  • Save the file as a new PBIP file.
