Hi @yakkantiV ,

PBIP is still evolving, and while it's super useful for deployment and source control, there are a few known limitations—especially around dataset refresh and report binding after deployment.

A few things to check:

  • Make sure the dataset is published and refreshed before opening the report.
  • If you're using separate PBIP folders for dataset and report, double-check that the report is correctly linked to the dataset in the target workspace.
  • Sometimes, after deployment, the report might lose its binding if the dataset ID changes or isn't available yet.

As for when this will be fully stable—Microsoft hasn’t announced an exact timeline, but improvements are rolling out gradually. Keep an eye on the Power BI release notes for updates.

Let us know if you’re seeing a specific error message—happy to help troubleshoot!

Thanks @burakkaragoz

My problem is the report in master branch & its connected  to power bi dev workspace

once its updated in dev workspace refreshed the report looks good

deployment pipeline will take report and semantic model to Qua ----> production

refresh the semantic model

open the report ----> we are running out error couldn't able to open the report

Hey!

Thanks for the extra context—this helps a lot.

From what you described, it sounds like the report is still tightly bound to the dataset in the Dev workspace, even after being deployed to QA or Prod. That’s why it works in Dev but fails to load elsewhere.

Here are a few things to check:

  1. Dataset Binding: After deployment, make sure the report is actually pointing to the dataset in the target workspace (QA/Prod). Sometimes the binding doesn’t update automatically.
  2. Deployment Rules: If you're using Git or PBIP, check if the dataset ID or connection is hardcoded. You might need to adjust deployment rules to rebind the report correctly.
  3. Manual Fix: As a test, try opening the report in QA, go to Model > Switch dataset, and manually point it to the correct semantic model in that workspace. If that works, it confirms the binding issue.

Let us know if that helps—happy to dig deeper if needed!
