Opening New Power BI File Formats
I have set up Git Integration with Fabric Worspaces and this seems to be working well. But I can't seem to open up the Power BI files within Desktop. I'm looking for a similar experience to opening up a Pbix file. Below is a screenshot of what is being synces to the Git Repo.
Should I be able to open up the definition.pbir file in desktop and see my report and dataset? Currently it just opens a blank file. Should there not be a .pbip file available? That's what the documentation shows I should be able to open, but that hasnt been generated / synched to the repo.
Any help understanding the new functionality would be appreciated.

Hi dmbd1904 ,
For definition.pbir file, it contains the overall definition of a report and core settings. This file also holds the reference to the dataset used by the report. Power BI Desktop can open a pbir file directly, just the same as if the report were opened from a pbip file. Opening a pbir also opens the dataset alongside if there's a relative reference using
byPath.{ "version": "1.0", "datasetReference": { "byPath": { "path": "../Sales.Dataset" }, "byConnection": null } }I try to open definition.pbir file in my Power BI Desktop, it works well.
