Hello everyone,
I'm starting BI with Power BI.
Now, i'm learning about concepts of Datawarehouse, Datamart and cube. I could understand that these 3 notions can be built with the OLAP modeling model, I am wrong ??
For my case, I have a SQL Server database,, which contains my Datawarehouse. In Power BI Desktop, I connect a new repport with my SQL Server Database in DirectQuery , i select the dimensions tables and my fact table with which i want to work. Next, these tables appear in the model section and it's at this moment that's i start to create a dataset whith relation (star model) , measures and calculated columns.
I want to know if this dataset is the same as a OLAP cube ?
If i am wrong, i want to know if is it possible to create a OLAP cube in power BI ?
thank you for your answers

@paulineCom , Power Bi does not create OLAP cube. It supports star schema or snowflakes schema.

Hi
For smaller dataset, it's perfectly fine to load data into powerbi and create a model. But if data is huge you can create an SSAS tabular model connect to PowerBI.
Appreciate a Kudos! 🙂
If this helps and resolves the issue, please mark it as a Solution! 🙂

Thank you for this answer, but that does not answer my questions which are :
I want to know if the dataset taht we build in Power BI Desktop is the same as a OLAP cube built in SSAS ?
If it's not the same, i want to know if is it possible to create a OLAP cube in power BI ?
