Navigator Screen Issue

Hi, I'm trying to add a new table to my Power BI report. I've added the new table to the source Excel file, but it's not appearing in the Power BI Navigator screen. Therefore, I'm unable to import it. Is there a known solution for this issue?

Hey! This usually happens when the new data in Excel isn’t defined in a way that Power BI can detect yet. The Navigator only shows worksheets, named ranges, or properly formatted Excel tables... not just any filled range of cells.

A simple fix is to go back to Excel, select the new data range, and convert it into a proper table (Insert > Table), making sure it has headers and a unique table name. Then save and close the Excel file before going back to Power BI. After that, reconnect or use Get Data from the Excel file again  (the new table should appear in the Navigator list). 

If it still doesn’t show up, doublecheck that you’re pointing to the correct file path and that the sheet or table name doesn’t conflict with an existing one. In most cases, formatting the range as a table and saving the file resolves the issue.

Thank you for reaching out. When you add a new worksheet to an existing Excel file, Power BI may not automatically recognize the structural changes, especially if the connection was previously established. Refreshing the report often does not update the metadata captured during the initial connection. To address this, please go to Data Source Settings, clear the permissions for the Excel file, close Power BI Desktop, then reopen it and reconnect to the file.

This process forces Power BI to re-read the workbook structure, and the new sheet should appear in the Navigator window. Ensure the Excel file is saved and closed before reconnecting. If you intend to import the new data as a table, verify that it is formatted as an official Excel table rather than a cell range. Following these steps should make the new worksheet visible for import.
