MySQL: Fatal error encountered during command execution - problem in service and desktop

Hi all,

Recently I started having problems connecting to one of my company's MySQL databases.

We have a report that worked fine until some days ago during refresh it threw an error:

Underlying error code:  -2147467259

Underlying error message:          MySQL: Fatal error encountered during command execution.

DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingHResult:                -2147467259

Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourceKind:       MySql

Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourcePath:       xxx

Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.ErrorCode:   -2147467259

Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.Message:     Fatal error encountered during command execution.

Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.Reason:        DataSource.Error

Cluster URI:       WABI-NORTH-EUROPE-I-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Activity ID:         00a0beda-a6d7-4120-b9ff-fb8db7928508

Request ID:        f5cef0eb-dc2d-ef30-baf8-6de89a55d2b5

Since then we cannot refresh the report or connect to the database both in Power BI or Excel's Power Query.

In existing report we cannot change the credentials:

We tried different solutions we found around the web in these threads:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Power-Query/Problem-connection-Power-BI-to-MySQL-data-source/td-p/6...
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/quot-Fatal-error-quot-when-using-MySQL-variable-in-query/td...
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Refresh-Issue/m-p/2580308

To sum up:
- we changed privacy settings,
- we tried installing different versions of MySQL Connector NET,
- we tried to instal MySQL Workbench on the computer,
- we tried to connect on different computers,
- we tried to update on-premise gataway,
- the SQL query is simple as "select * from database" so there is no user-defined variable.

What else can we do to solve this problem?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi all,

Looks like our IT Departament found solution to this problem.

1.  I had to instal the connector from this site: https://mariadb.com/downloads/connectors/connectors-data-access/odbc-connector/
2. When connecting to the database in Power BI, I had to use option "MariaDB" instead of "MySQL Database"

This solution worked for me and I hope it will work for other people having this issue.

I assume that you cannot access the DB from a new Power BI file?

Hi @RobertPaegelow

No, I cannot access the database in new Power BI file.
I also cannot connect via Excel's Power Query and I cannot refresh already published report that worked some time ago.

Is the DB accessible from somewhere else than PBI Desktop?

@RobertPaegelow

I can access it by phpMyAdmin tool.
My credentials work there and I can browse the database freely.
