Multiple X-axis values

Hi everyone,

I have a number of bar graphs with multiple x-axis values (date, week, month, customer, etc). The purpose for this was to be able to drill up/down and see the different values. Just recently I have noticed that as I drill down the list the values in the x-axis are joining together, see below:

No it looks very messy where before with what I have selected above I should just see individual dates, if I drilled up then I would see Train ID, etc.

Is this a bug or is there a setting to change this?

Thanks,

Giles

Can you show us the whole dimensional values?  I'm not sure if you have something lik concatenated values, or just a formatting issue.

@Nhallquist here you go:

Thanks. I think I see what you are trying to do here.  Can you remove the field from the Legend?  Also, a complete picture of the graph would be great.  I would like to see if the Drill Down arrows are activated or not.  I can't see them, but I have to think they are not working and it might be becuase you have a value in the legend that is not a dimension.  However, this is just a thought.

@Nhallquist - I have done a check on a few other files and the same thing is happening. However I checked the same reports in Powerbi.com and this issue does not occur. It appears to be a bug on the desktop version that doesnt carry through to the web version.

I have sent a frown to the PBI team.

Thanks,

Giles

Hi @GilesWalker

In Power BI Desktop, the Drill action is based on all data, which means when you drill down to child level, it will return child member of all parent level members. For example, if you drill from Year to Quarter, it will show quarters in all years instead of 4 quarters in one year. So in your scenario, when you drill to Date level, all dates appear on X-axis. For your requirement, you need to create a silcers on different level to filter those members you want.

Regards,

If you are using the button "Drill all to the next level" then you should read April Update Feature Summary

They call it "In-line hierarchy labels for drill levels (Preview)".
