Modify a column from been Text to be DateTime, is doing so from the ModelView the correct way

I have a model inside my Model view page which gets its data from external API. and i have 4 fields named EndTime, StartTime, LogEnd & LogStart. where they are been returned as string/text, so i wanted to change them to be of type Date/Time, so the filters will allow me to chose from a calendar.

To do so i select the column inside the Model >> change the Date type, as shown in the below  picture:-

so is this the recommended wayt to change the data type?

Second question, when i did so, i got this message:-

so what is ment by "restore the column by refreshing the table"? is refreshing the table to get the latest data (either manual or based on a schdule) will restore the column back to be of type Text instead of Date/Time?

but the changes did not get overridden

so which refresh will over write those changes?

Hello my bad. I forgot to mention the prompt that you got indicates that the chages that you made might result in data loss or conflict and only if there is such case will the data restore to its original state. So I guess you are good, if you didn't have any issues while refreshing. The changes should retain.

Hello,

This means  that if you refresh the table, Power BI will reload the data from the original data source. This process will revert the column to its original state, including the original data type and values. Power BI will discard the changes you made to the data type and bring back the data in its original form from the data source. Any modifications, including the new data type, will be lost.

Better you make the data type changes in the Power Query Editor.
