Model loading error

Hi,

With any change in the computer or data source, today the data isn't loading into the model, PowerQuery it seems works and update well, but at the end of the model update process I get this error:

"An unexpected exception occurred.
Unexpected error (file "", line , function "").
The current operation was canceled because an error occurred in another operation of the transaction"

As you can see, it doesn't provede any information about a epecific file or function....

Do someone any idea about on where I should look?

Thnaks

Hi @Joan_Roig ,

Thank you for your Response..!!

This happens when DAX tries to evaluate MAX() in a context where multiple values exist, and it can't determine which single value to use-especially when MAX() is used directly in a filter argument or inside CALCULATE.

Using a variable makes the logic stable and avoids ambiguity errors during evaluation.

Hi @v-venuppu

I'm still working on the issue.

I've resolved some measures that were using the MAX function by moving this function into a variable. I don't know why, but the MAX function within the DAX formula was causing an error, while using variables didn't

Hi @Joan_Roig ,

Glad to hear that its working instead of rebuilding it from the scratch.

1.Try rebooting your system once.

2.Try to install the same version in your computer with which you are able to work it on another computer.

3.If the issue still persists, please check with your IT Team why the issue is only on specific computer.

Hi @Joan_Roig ,

I recommend submitting your issue through Microsoft's official Support Ticket such as the Power Platform admin center.

Thank you.

I've opened the file on another computer without any errors. This is quite strange, as the issue seems to be specific to my computer when using this particular file, because I can open other pbix files correctly.

Hello, it's clear I can't solve this problem. The model has 80 measures, and using DAX View, I located three of them with the same error. I can't modify any measure because when the model tries to update, it fails again and doesn't save the changes.

I also opened the file with Tabular Editor and checked what was happening on the server with SQL Server Profiler. In both cases, errors appeared, but none of them clarified the actual problem. It's obvious this issue is beyond my current knowledge.

It looks like I'll have to rebuild the file from scratch, which will be a big job

Hi @Joan_Roig ,

Yes, this is a common issue when the model can’t finish loading but you can still make changes without refreshing the entire model.

You can try with the below steps:

Open the PBIX file without triggering a refresh
1.Open the file in Power BI Desktop.

2.If it prompts you to refresh or apply pending changes, click “Discard” or “Cancel”.

3.Go straight to the Model View or Data View.

4.Delete or fix any recent measures, calculated columns, or relationships that might be causing issues.

5.Save the file and try refreshing again.

If that doesn’t help go with the following steps:
1.Open a backup or make a copy of the file, then follow the same steps.

2.In Power Query, disable most query loads so only one or two tables load at a time - this helps isolate which part is breaking the model.

Hi  ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @Jai-Rathinavel for the prompt response.

Here are some steps that can help to solve the issue:

Step 1: Check for errors in Power Query
Go to Home > Transform Data.

In the Power Query Editor, click on each table on the left.

Look for:

Any red or yellow error messages.

Any columns with “Error” values.

Fix or remove problem columns (like nulls in key columns or failed merge/expand).

If you merged another table, make sure it didn't introduce blank or invalid values.

Step 2: Clear Power BI Cache

Step 3: Remove or simplify relationships (if any)
Go to Model view.

Check if any table relationships have:

A dotted or inactive line.

Circular relationships.

Try deleting one or two complex relationships temporarily and reload.

Step 4: Load tables one at a time (to find the problem)
Save a copy of your file.

Disable load for all but one table:

Right-click a query in Power Query > “Enable load” (uncheck).

Try loading only one table.

Add tables back one at a time to find which one is breaking it.

Hi,

I've tried to change or delete some measures, but the problem is that the model can't update, so the changes aren't applied.

I'm not sure how to make and save these changes.

Any ideas?

Hi @Joan_Roig

1. Please download the model from Service and refresh it on Desktop and Debug the error.

2. Got to Power Query View and check individual queries for errors and fix it.
