Missing Connection Details

  • Hi, I have an error like the following:

"We are unable to access some data sources because the artifact is missing connection details. Please contact the artifact owner to bind the data source to a data connection or use default connection settings for the unbound data source."

The case is: I’m using dataverse as the data source. When using power bi desktop, it works and can be used, but once I publish it, it doesn't work.
How do I solve this?

Hi @billie90 ,

Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community.  Power BI Desktop uses your local credentials, which is why the report works there. However, once the report is published to Power BI Service, the dataset needs a proper data connection with valid credentials.

To resolve the issue, follow these steps.

1.Navigate to the workspace where the report is published.
2. Find the dataset (not just the report), click the ellipsis (...), and select Settings.
3. Scroll to the Data source credentials section.

4. Click Edit credentials. Choose OAuth2 as the authentication method.

5. Sign in with the Microsoft account that has access to the Dataverse environment.

6. After saving, manually refresh the dataset to verify it works.

Note: If your Dataverse environment URL is stored as a parameter in Power BI, ensure it has a valid default value and matches the live environment URL exactly.

Hi V-yubandi-msft,

I'm following your steps, but I can't find "Data source credentials" section, would you suggest how to fix it?

THANK YOU!
