Microsoft Power BI Desktop cant view my reports due to WebView2 error message

For years our Power BI report has worked perfect. Just a week ago the report didn’t open anymore due to a Microsoft Edge WebView2 error.

error messageerror message

The error message is in Dutch but translated to English it would be something like "You cant view this report, Download and install Microsoft Edge Webview 2 and open this application again to view all content."

So i installed the requested Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime, but to no avail.

After that I downloaded the Microsoft Power BI Desktop app and disabled the "Power BI Desktop Infrastructure Update" setting that some users used as a work around to get it fixed. But this also did not fix my problem.

So can anyone help me in this case?

PC is Windows 10 Version 22H2

The Power BI app is downloaded from the store als version 3222.31002.7718.0

I can even see taht in version 7718 there was done an update for Browsing with Webview2

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I tried your suggestion at first to no succes. However your reply gave me some food for tought.

I checked what was set as my default browser. This setting was set to Chrome. I changed this setting to Microsoft Edge and rebooted the system. Voila it is working agian 🙂

Thanks for your suggestion and getting me on the right track to fix this issue.

Hello,

I have tried to install powerbi on windows 11 but it didn't work despite several versions I've tried. it asks to install webview2 and when I downloaded it and installed it , it said that it is already installed on my laptop. could you kindly suggest how can I fix the issue as it's been a month facing the issue?

Thank you!

@DonPeters , Enable this and check if makes any difference

Go to File-> Options and settings -> Options -> Security Option -> and check: Use My Default browser( Visible after scrolling)

if need, create cache of the default browser
