Measure help

Hi I work in a school and need a bit of help with a measure i'm having trouble with if it is in fact a measure i need 🙂

So on one of my pages I want to show top 10 or top 20 students with the highest achievement points. Sound simple but the points aren't added up in the table they go in lines. So student A might have 20 lines instances with their name with a total of 25 points spread over the 20 lines.

The point value is pre populated and is based on the type of achievement. The table is pulled from our MIS system daily.

An alternative way to that suggested by @Mariusz  is to use the TopN filter in the filter pane.

First create a measure with the sum of the points:

Sum of points = SUM('DataTable'[Points])

Create a table visual with the student and [Sum of points] measure, and filter the table using the TopN option:

Thank you both. I went with the second solution as I could understand it 🙂

I have a good working top 10 list

Hi @jblackburnHWGA

Try this Measure.

Rank Brand =
RANKX(
    CALCULATETABLE(
        VALUES( 'Product'[Brand] ), --Student Name Column
        ALLSELECTED()
    ),
    CALCULATE(
        SUMX(Sales, Sales[Net Price] * Sales[Quantity]) --SUM( points Column )
    ),,
    DESC
)

Best Regards,
Mariusz
