Matrix filter

I am creating a report that has mutliple matrix in it.  One of the Matrix, I only want to display current month numbers.  The way that I did that was using the Visual lever filter.   The problem with that is if I select a previous month, the filtered matirx is blank.   Is there a way to display the current month but also to have it filtered by previous month.

First one is when nothing is selected on another matrix.  The second one is when October is selected.  The reason matrix is blank due to the filter.    I would like it to pull Octobers numbers instead of being blank.  The third image is what it should look like if I remove the Visual Filter.  However then when i have all data selected again I no longer just receive Decembers numbers for the Reason Matrix.   Any suggestions?
