Hello,
For a financial report i have a matrix setup with level 1, 2 and 3 that refer to the group level of the general ledger accounts. Instead of directly having the ledger group columns in the matrix, I have 3 parameters each with 3 options A, B and C. This refers to whether or not the company selection is a consolidation level. For every ledger account there are 9 groups 1A to C3. For example the ledger accounts sales intercompany has group 1A=sales but group 1C = elimination.
It worked fine until the July update. The problem now is that when I deselect the company and select a company on another consolidation option, it somehow goes down in the level.
1. I select a company in A and my matrix is on level 1A.
2. I deselect the company in A and select the company in C, I expect the matrix to open on 1C. However it opens on 2C or 3C.
Users now have to know about drilling up, which most don't. Does anyone know a solution to this issue?

I think it's related to this issue:

Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
Based on the July 2025 update, this behavior is a known change related to how the matrix now retains the drill level when switching field parameter values.
At the moment, there isn’t a direct fix available from the product side. As the @MFelix mentioned, please refer to the blog post and CAT team comments shared earlierthey explain the change and current limitations.
I would also take a moment to thank MFelix , for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
Thank you.
Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
Without further information is difficult to pinpoint the error, specially when you refer that this was working until the July update, there were some changes.
Can you please share a mockup data or sample of your PBIX file. You can use a onedrive, google drive, we transfer or similar link to upload your files.
If the information is sensitive please share it trough private message.

Check out my blog: Power BI em PortuguêsHi @MatthijsOFG ,
Not sure if I'm able to capture the exact problem but when I select conpany A and then remove the selection and selecton company C it seems to show the correct level:
Am I doing any selection incorrectly or not understading the problem?
Can you please explain what is that I should be looking for so that I can try and help you better.

Check out my blog: Power BI em PortuguêsOkay now I'm even more confused because you seem to be doing the same thing as me with a different result. This is what I am seeing: https://imgur.com/a/v2LwtQH
To be clear, if you click directly from company to company or consolidation it works fine. The problem only occurs when you first deselect, and then select a new option. Could you try to do this sequence:
1. select companyA on level 1A
2. deselect companyA
3. select consolidationB
4. deselect consolidationB
5. select consolidationC
That causes the issue 100% of the times for me.
Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
Apologies for the late reply this got lost in the other notifications, waht is happening here is that in July 2025 there was an implementation to keep the level of detail when you change from one field parameter to the other one, so the idea is if you have a matrix open at the lowest level when you change to another value in the field parameter it will keep the same level that you were before.
Please see the explanation below:
However there are some caveats, please check this blog post with some comments from the CAT team
https://www.reddit.com/r/PowerBI/comments/1mk8n7v/july_2025_matrix_behavior_change_field_parameters/
It seems like the problem stills persists.

Check out my blog: Power BI em PortuguêsHi MFelix,
Thanks for looking into it and confirming my suspicion. Hopefully there is a solution soon.
Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
Can you please confirm whether the issue is resolved or not. I would also take a moment to thank MFelix , for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
Thank you.
The issue is the result of, in my opinion, a mistake in the july update. So it is not resolved. But there is also not much we can do about it now. Unless you have a suggestion what I could do about it?

Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
To assist you further, could you please provide sample data that clearly illustrates the issue you're experiencing?
Need help preparing or uploading sample data? You can refer to this helpful guide:

Hi,
You should be able to download the pbix file here: https://we.tl/t-DiqjC6vd3A
You will see a slicer and a matrix. Company C is selected and the matrix is on level 1A.
Please follow these steps in the slicer:
1. deselect companyC
2. select consolidationB
3. deselect consolidationB
4. select consolidationC
I would expect the matrix to be on level 1C after these steps. However, it moves down a level to 2c. Why does this happen? The users of my reports now have to manually drill up after changing slicer selection.
Hi @MatthijsOFG ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
When I tried to open the sample file, it displayed as shown below. Could you please review the data and provide the correct data.
Best Regards,

I think you have to click 'accept all' and then 'I agree' before you can download the file on wetransfer.
Hi Miguel Félix, thanks for your message. It is sensitive data, so I will try to recreate the issue with some mockup data.
