Hi all,
I have a question about maps in Power BI. Basically, I would like to map fill data and point data on the same map. Is there any way to do this using native visualizations?
I have sample sales data by zip code that I would like to map as a filled map with zip codes shaded by sales. I also have sample billboard locations by zip code with latitude and longitude. On top of the filled map, I want to show billboard locations as points. I work in marketing, so the idea would be to show where the client is getting sales and where we could place billboards within those areas.
I believe what I want is possible using Icon Map Pro, but unfortunately, I cannot use paid visuals. Below is an image from Icon Map Pro that basically shows what I'd like to do.
I have my sample dashboard here that shows a filled map and Azure map. I just want to be able to combine them into one visual. I'm not sure what I want is currently possible, but I appreciate any asistance you can give! If you know of some kind of workaround, I'd be open to hearing that too!
@hoyt22 I made a video about how to do that.
@Greg_Deckler I actually watched your video the other day. I have a lot of filtering on my map that the user can do and a lot of zooming in and out, so I didn't really want to overlap two maps.
@hoyt22 The latest version of the Azure Maps visual allows you to have both Fill and Bubble active now. I just tested it recently. Well, but really not for two independent data series I guess. So, you should be able to do it. For example:
@Greg_Deckler As stated, I have two different data sources I'd like to map together - one is filled data using sales and one is point data using billboard locations. When I look at the different types of layers, I can't insert data fields. It appears I can only use a reference layer as the filled layer, not my sales by zip code dataset. I did find a zip code GeoJSON file that I can upload as the reference layer (included in my sample dashboard link), but I don't know how I can connect that to my sales data and/or filters.
Hi @hoyt22
Combining a Filled Map and an Azure Map into a single visual isn’t currently possible in Power BI. At the moment, Power BI doesn’t support combining a Filled Map and an Azure Maps visual into a single visual. Each map type is designed to work independently, so a filled layer can’t be directly merged with a point layer within the same visual.
