Using power bi desktop with report server both are Jan 2020 build. For the desktop editor, I do not have many-to-many cardinality available in data modeling. Is it because of the specific version? Because the microsoft documentation about this cardinality in desktop version is from December 2019.

Hi, @pborah
If you query two or more tables at the same time, when the data is loaded, Power BI Desktop attempts to find and create relationships for you. The relationship options Cardinality, Cross filter direction, and Make this relationship active are automatically set. Power BI Desktop looks at column names in the tables you're querying to determine if there are any potential relationships. If there are, those relationships are created automatically. If Power BI Desktop can't determine with a high level of confidence there's a match, it doesn't create the relationship. However, you can still use the Manage relationships dialog box to manually create or edit relationships.
For further information, you may refer to the document to troubleshoot relationship.

Hi @v-alq-msft ,
I did go to manage relationships to create one manually. However in the drop down list for the type of relationship, I do not see the option for a many-to-many relationship.

I'm using Jan 2020 build of Desktop and Report Server. The microsoft documentation I read where it said that the many-to-many cardinality is now available in Power BI desktop was from December 2019. That is what my question is. Is there a reason why I do not have this particular cardinality in my version of Power BI?
hi @pborah
Can you try installing a later version of PowerBI and validate the same? Also what are the options available in the "Filter direction" dropdown for the relationship in question

Thanks @v-alq-msft and @Sumanth_23 ,
Unfortunately, I cannot install another version as that would also mean updating the Report Server in my organization. And I'm not in charge of that. I can put in a request with my senior DBA and manager but who knows how long will that take to get approved. Besides we're very slowly working our way towards setting up the service instead in the next few months and I will have to re-create every single report ever published to the server anyways since those reports are not compatible with the service(as per the Microsoft rep assigned to our org).
Hi, @pborah
Have you tried using the recent version of Power BI Desktop? My version is July 2020 and it works properly.
