M engine integration is not enabled

Hi, I'm getting the following error trying to save/publish a report to our on prem SSRS server.

Scottyuk_0-1606751670963.png

Looking at the log file the error is reporting the following 'M engine integration is not enabled'

I have looked for solutions, I have unchecked relationships options and i've checked for errors in the report.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi, just to update the issue,

I have created a blank report and created a table from within PowerBI and tried to push that to our on-prem server and i'm getting an error, looking at the logs i am now seeing this:

2020-12-08 11:17:53.3602|ERROR|145|We're not able to upload this report. The report was created with a recent version of Power BI Desktop that is not yet supported by this server.| RequestID = s_610440ed-bc72-43b8-83be-70aa75c8cade

My more complicated report is still showing:

Failed to publish model for temp_193c9ad7-6184-4a85-84c8-405d67911bdf ---> Microsoft.AnalysisServices.OperationException: M engine integration is not enabled.

Having upgraded our on-prem server i can confirm both errors are down to having a different version of PowerBI desktop compared to the on-prem server.

Hi @Scottyuk

Please first check if there is any unsupported data sources / authentication methods in the report from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/data-sources.

  • Some data sources are available in Power BI Desktop optimized for Power BI Report Server, but aren't supported when published to Power BI Report Server.
  • Power BI Report Server does not support OAuth-based authentication for model refresh. Some data sources such as Excel or Access databases make use of a separate step like File or Web to connect to data.
  • Power BI Report Server does not support OAuth-based authentication for DirectQuery.

Then, check if there is any unsupported features in the report from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/compare-report-server-servicePower BI Report Server and the Power BI service have some key differences which may cause this error.

Kindly let me know if this helps.
