Line chart - Is this a bug?

Hi Folks

I am running into a very strange issue and not sure if this is a bug with Line chart or an issue with how I am authoring the measure / tooltip. Would love someone to take a look at the attached sample PBIX file  (just realized I am unable to attach the file directly so using Google Drive link to post) Line Chart Bug Demo that shows the issue.

The report displays a line chart that shows the Funding Ratio metrics for all the years of available data based on the selection crieria the user selects. The legend in the chart is plan name. On hover over any data point I show a custom tooltip. In the attached file the tooltip shows which Year and Plan we are currently hovering.

What I have noticed that if the numbers of plan based on selected criteria is less than 60 (I found this by trial and error) then on the Hover page only the Year value is shown and the plan name does not seem to be part of the filter context. You will also notice that when hovering there will be a vertical line to indicate the year where we are hovering. If the number of the plans is more than 60 based on the selected criteria then this time on the Hover Page the Plan Name is available but not the Year. So it looks I can never get both the values on the custom tooltip page. Fo rmy case I need the custom tooltip page as I show other information.

To mimic the case, select Range short as >=100% , you should get 6 Plan. For getting more than 60 select all the ranges from 80 - 90, 90-100, >= 100, You should get 65 Plan.

You will need the latest version of Power BI Desktop to open the attached file.

Thanks

Ravi

Hi @onlythebest ,

It seems is  a limitation. The tooltip unable to recoganize so many lines.

The vertical line of tooltip can get the year, and the dot can get the plan name of this line.

Please try to use another visual or create an idea here.

Thanks for confirming this. To me it looks more like a bug than a limitation since it is not behaving consistently.

As you can see depending on the number of lines it sometimes gives the year of the plan or the name of the plan. If it is unable to determine the co-ordinate then at least it should provide consistent information instead of providing one information when the number of lines is less than 60 and another information when more than 60.

Do you have suggestion for another visual that would render well with large number of data points? I tried area chart but it also has same limitation.

Thanks
